Seedlings Vegan Provisions is a plant-based Seattle pop-up shop. We focus on sourcing delicious, unique, high-quality and diverse plant-based cheeses and meats, allowing customers to reimagine vegan food. There is a thriving plant-based Seattle community, and we are excited to be a part of it!
By ensuring all of our products are vegan - meaning they are free from animal and animal-derived products - we eliminate the guesswork and research for you. With us, you’ll find artisanal dairy-free cheese and animal-free meats.
If you’re thinking, “Wait, cheese and meat aren’t vegan…”, you’d be correct!
Instead, we sell plant-based alternatives of lots of foods - from salami to brie. These products are made from a variety of tasty ingredients like nut milks, mushrooms, fruits, vegetables, and more!
Here at Seedlings, we believe that a plant-based diet can be a game changer when it comes to respectful coexistence, climate change, and public health. We can make progress towards a compassionate, cleaner, and healthier future for our planet by changing our relationship with factory farming.
Many may wonder, “But why have these alternatives if we already have meats and cheeses made from animal products?”. Along with the positive benefits of plant-based products, vegan options allow a wider range of people to enjoy these products for different reasons including religious observances and personal preferences. A plant-based diet can be very inclusive!
We love to share the wide world of plant-based alternatives and veganism with others. We know that people seek out plant-based options for lots of reasons and have different questions about its benefits and impacts. There are so many books, documentaries, and advocacy groups that provide a wealth of information on several topics related to plant-based diets, and we’ve compiled some of our favorites for you.
There are often lots of questions when it comes to vegan cheese and meat alternatives.
How are these products made? What about all of those ingredients? Do they actually even taste good? Well, the answer is: It depends! Typically the vegan cheese and meat options we find in our grocery stores are made by only a few of the biggest names in the business and therefore are mass-produced. While it is great to see them on the shelves and provide more people with vegan options, these products only represent a small slice of what plant-based alternatives are. Smaller, more artisanal producers can offer superior products made from high-quality ingredients that taste great, and that is why we at Seedlings want to bring those options to you!
So…what exactly is vegan cheese?
Again, it depends! Like cheese made from animal milk, vegan cheese comes in lots of shapes, sizes, colors, textures and flavors. Our vegan cheeses are generally derived from nut, soy, or coconut milks. Also like dairy cheeses, quality varies depending on the producer and type of cheese - some vegan cheeses just taste better than others! Often, even vegans themselves say that the one thing we haven’t figured out yet is vegan cheese. However, delicious vegan cheeses do exist (we promise!). It’s more of an access issue. Our grocery stores do not typically carry a wide variety of vegan options, especially when compared to the range of dairy cheeses you can find in most supermarkets.
And what about vegan meat - what is that all about?
Good question! There is a big range of plant-based meats out there, so it is hard to narrow down a good definition - if you have had one plant-based meat product, you have had one plant-based meat product. While some of the more recognized brands often try to mimic popular animal products, there are others that aim to stand out as a new thing entirely. Plant-based meats are derived from many different ingredients including fungi, vegetables, legumes, and grains.
There are so many yummy and fascinating vegan options available today! And, we are bringing those more unique options to you! From New York to LA and anywhere in between, we are sourcing from some of the best small-batch, plant-based businesses out there.
There are plenty of plant-based Seattle restaurants, but Seattle vegans know that our grocery stores carry largely all of the same vegan products and brands. Many of the vegan products available in a typical grocery store are produced by brands that are subsidiaries of meat-producing companies. As consumers have increased demand for plant-based options, larger, more established corporations have either bought up smaller companies or created lines of vegan products themselves. While this is, of course, progress, our dollars still end up supporting companies who rely on factory farming for their primary source of profits. So, here at Seedlings, we focus on sourcing from like-minded companies that share our values of respecting our animals, environment and bodies.
